CORU: allied health professions OET requirements: scores and application checks
CORU accepts a profession-specific OET: most listed boards require B in three components and C+ in one; radiography requires B throughout, and speech and language therapy has a higher score profile.

Choose the registration board before choosing a target
CORU’s table is organised by registration board and matching professional OET. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, optometry and podiatry allow B in three components and C+ in one. Radiography requires 350 throughout. Speech and language therapy requires 400 in three components and 350 in one. The lower component is flexible; it is not automatically Writing. Do not transfer the general profile to the higher-requirement boards.
Certificates must be dated within two years of application. CORU explicitly accepts online/at-home OET. It permits at most two sittings with the same provider within six months, with no component below grade C in either sitting; individual OET sub-test retakes are excluded. The source also refers to an overall minimum when combining. Confirm any ambiguous overall condition with CORU rather than calculating an invented OET overall score.

Check whether the test route applies to your evidence
Before booking, review CORU’s language page alongside your application route. The page describes education and professional-practice evidence as well as language tests. This guide focuses on OET when you need that test route. It does not decide whether your qualification or practice history meets another form of evidence. If you intend to rely on education rather than a test, ask what documentation CORU needs for that route.
Keep the board name and the matching test version on your checklist. If your professional title is similar to more than one title used internationally, ask CORU which register applies. A professional OET version appearing in another country’s requirements does not establish a route under CORU. Nor should you infer an OET route for a profession where CORU’s table says no profession-specific test is specified. Retain the receiving body’s answer beside the application instructions.

Record a flexible score profile without changing its meaning
When checking your own result, identify every component that reaches the higher threshold and then check the remaining component against the allowed lower threshold. Keep the distinction between a lower permitted component and a component below the permitted floor. In a combined application, preserve the complete statements for both sittings. A list of best scores alone hides the conditions attached to the original tests.
Keep the dates, provider, profession-specific test and delivery arrangement with those statements. If you are using a remote format, identify the branded test product precisely. CORU’s acceptance of an at-home OET version does not establish acceptance for a different regulator or for another language test. This page leaves the overall wording visible rather than offering an automated combined-result approval. That is a limitation of our comparison tool; CORU remains the body that can confirm your evidence.

Use your own profession to practise precise communication
A physiotherapy update should connect changes in function with the reason for review. An occupational therapy letter should make the relevant daily-living or home circumstances useful to its reader. A dietetics task should connect intake, progress and the support requested. In optometry or podiatry, distinguish the patient’s symptoms from examination findings and preserve the timing of any change. In radiography, keep the investigation request and the relevant clinical question clear without adding an imaging result.
Speech and language therapy practice can involve sensitive conversations about communication, swallowing or changing support needs. Practise asking what matters to the patient before explaining the next step. Keep a tentative finding tentative, and check that the patient understands what is proposed. Our original role-plays and letters provide material for these language tasks. They are not clinical protocols or exercises issued by CORU.
Begin with the profession links below. In writing, select the relevant notes before drafting and review whether the opening makes the reader’s next action clear. In speaking, replay the difficult exchange and replace a long explanation with a focused question where appropriate. Use feedback to choose the next change you want to practise, then try an unfamiliar case. Continued access is described on the practice-pass page. A practice estimate, a saved plan or a purchased pass cannot substitute for the certificate and verification required for registration.
