Use Dentistry OET and the Irish receiving body

The Dental Council of Ireland’s language page accepts a Dentistry OET certificate with at least B in every component. It accepts paper-based and computer-based exams and currently excludes OET@Home. The certificate must have been obtained no more than two years before submission of the registration application. The page does not establish a combining window or an OET single-sub-test resit rule; those remain unconfirmed here.

Authorise OET to allow verification of your results. The council verifies the certificate during registration. Its language page also describes alternative education and practice evidence. This guide does not decide whether your documents qualify for those alternatives. If you intend to rely on them, use the council’s specific evidence instructions rather than assuming that study in English automatically removes the need for further documentation.

Do not substitute another dental body’s policy

Check the receiving body’s full name before using any score table. The Dental Council of Ireland and the UK General Dental Council are different organisations. A statement about OET acceptance for one cannot establish acceptance by the other. Keep the intended country, registration body and application route together at the top of your evidence checklist.

The same care applies to a course provider or a prospective employer. Ask whether a requirement is for admission, employment selection or professional registration. If somebody advises that a result is sufficient, retain the source of that advice and compare it with the council’s published language page. Avoid booking a new test solely because a generic dental preparation article gives a different number. Resolve the mismatch with the body that will assess your application, using your complete statement and exact test format.

Prepare the evidence without filling gaps by assumption

Keep your certificate, test date, professional version and verification arrangement in the same folder. Record when you expect to submit the registration application, so that the currency requirement can be checked against the correct event. A result that was current when you booked or completed a course may be older when you actually submit the application.

If your result comes from separate sittings or includes a single-component retake, ask the council whether that evidence is acceptable. Silence on the cited page is not an allowance to combine. Describe the actual results rather than sending only a selection of your best components. Retain any response with your application record. These checks can help you avoid spending time on the wrong test arrangement, but they do not replace the registration team’s assessment of your documentation.

Practise a dental letter that makes the next action clear

Choose an original Dentistry task and identify the professional who will receive it. Ask what they need to assess or do next. A useful referral connects the patient’s complaint, relevant examination findings and treatment already attempted with the requested assessment. The order should help the reader understand why the referral is being made now. Background belongs where it explains that request, rather than forming a long opening history.

Preserve uncertainty and chronology. A symptom reported by the patient is not an examination finding, and a planned procedure is not completed treatment. Avoid adding urgency, diagnoses or management that the supplied case does not state. After drafting, look for vague requests that could be made more precise using the information already present in the notes.

For speaking, rehearse explaining a proposed dental investigation or treatment while exploring the patient’s concern. Use clear language and ask the patient to describe what they have understood. If anxiety changes the conversation, respond to it before returning to the plan. Use our profession links to open existing cases, and review a specific part of the feedback before trying another task. Further practice and marking use the existing plan allowances. Purchasing a practice pass does not provide a certificate, endorsement or registration decision from the Dental Council.
