The three delivery modes
The 2026 OET Test Handbook distinguishes the place and method of testing from the test specification. Choosing a screen or paper does not change which four language skills are assessed. Listening and Reading are shared across professions; Writing and Speaking use profession-specific scenarios. Check the booking options for your profession and location rather than assuming that a delivery mode appearing in a general guide is available for your intended appointment.
| Mode | Where and how | Before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| OET on Paper | Paper-based test at an approved test centre | Check available sessions for your profession and location. |
| OET on Computer | Computer-based test at an approved venue | Read the booking instructions for each component and its location. |
| OET@Home | Your own computer at home, with remote proctoring | Meet technical and room requirements; confirm access and regulatory acceptance. |

OET@Home access and technical preparation
The handbook describes OET@Home for candidates with no test venue in their country or other access needs. It requires a suitable computer, environment and remote supervision. The support guidance provides the system-check instructions. Complete those checks before relying on a home appointment, and use the current official instructions for hardware, software and room setup. We do not reproduce a device specification here because a changed requirement can make an old checklist misleading.
Access to a delivery mode and acceptance of its result are separate decisions. A successful technical check does not tell you whether your registration board accepts that mode. Start with the receiving authority, then work through OET’s booking and system requirements. Keep the confirmation for your actual booking together with the component schedule.

Recognition can decide your choice
Ahpra accepts paper or computer OET at a testing centre and excludes at-home tests. Its guidance makes an exception for the remotely delivered component of venue computer OET; that exception should not be read as acceptance of OET@Home. A candidate therefore needs more than the phrase “computer test accepted” to choose the right booking.
Use the country and profession score index to find the regulator and follow its official source. If you also need the result for immigration, check that authority separately. Explain the exact delivery arrangement when asking a regulator a question, including where each component is taken. Compare the score profile, accepted mode and evidence date before paying.

Results timing and application deadlines
OET’s current results guidance gives venue computer results in as little as 48 hours after all four components are complete, with 95% released within six calendar days. The handbook includes OET@Home in the computer results guidance. For paper tests it gives results from five days in India and the Philippines, and from thirteen days in other regions. These are indicative timelines, with possible delays for checks, public holidays and regional factors.
Count from completion of the required components, not merely from the first appointment. Leave time for the receiving body to verify the result as well. Our results, re-mark and validity guide explains what happens after release, while test dates helps you plan the booking.

Practise in the mode you will use
For paper preparation, print the question papers on the free Listening Part A and free Reading Part A pages. Keep the separate answer key out of sight until you finish. For screen preparation, type answers into the online samples and practise reviewing a full response within the time limit.
Use a fresh full test to estimate progress after revising a sample. Repeating a familiar question paper checks learning, but can inflate your impression of readiness. The score calculator gives practice ranges rather than official results. Try the free materials first, then review practice plans if you need more original tasks.

Questions candidates ask
Is OET@Home marked differently from paper OET?
No. The 2026 OET handbook says all delivery modes use the same format and specifications and are marked to the same standard.
Does every regulator accept OET@Home?
No. Confirm the delivery mode with the organisation receiving the result. Ahpra, for example, excludes at-home tests while accepting venue computer OET under its stated conditions.
Is paper or computer OET easier?
The official specification and marking standard are the same. Practise using the delivery mode you will book, and base the choice on availability, acceptance and your ability to work accurately in that mode.
