The rule for nurses in Malta
Malta’s Council for Nurses and Midwives publishes this language requirement for non-EU-qualified nursing applicants: Speaking B and at least C+ in Writing, Reading and Listening. The same page describes a temporary registration route and a nursing bridging course, so the language result is only part of the registration process. Certificates must still be valid when submitted. The cited page does not specify a universal numerical validity period, a combining rule or an OET@Home decision.

What to aim for in practice
For a non-EU-trained nurse targeting Malta, Speaking has the higher grade threshold. Practise explaining a discharge plan and checking that the patient understands the next appointment and support arrangements. Build Listening accuracy through the two free consultations and review the exact words missed. Do not infer a two-year English-certificate rule from the separate twenty-four-month temporary registration period; ask the council how it evaluates the age and delivery mode of your particular result.
| Skill | Official component target / floor | OETAce conservative practice guide |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | 300 (C+) | 27/42 gives an estimated 300–320 |
| Reading | 300 (C+) | 27/42 gives an estimated 300–320 |
These raw-mark ranges use the same estimate as our test marker. They are a study aid, not an official OET conversion or registration decision. Part A alone cannot predict a score for a full 42-question test. Review Writing and Speaking feedback separately.
