Veterinary OET requirements: RCVS, AVBC and Ireland
Veterinary OET requirements differ: RCVS registration guidance allows one C+ with an overall B, its statutory-exam page says B in each component, AVBC requires 350 throughout at one sitting, and Ireland’s VCI specifies overall B.

A veterinary hub with separate receiving-body rules
Choose the receiving body before using a veterinary score profile. RCVS’s English-language page describes an overall B with B in three components and at least C+ in the remaining component. It permits component retakes while retaining the overall condition. However, RCVS’s statutory-membership-exam page states B in each component. These are different published descriptions; the page does not resolve the discrepancy on the applicant’s behalf. Confirm which applies to your route before relying on a C+.
RCVS results must be less than two years old on submission. Its English page names paper or online Veterinary OET without explicitly settling branded OET@Home acceptance. AVBC requires B or 350 in each component at a single sitting, with a three-year currency rule and in-person delivery. The VCI document specifies an overall B or above and a certificate no older than two years, without per-component lines or a delivery rule.

Send a focused question when a policy is unclear
For an RCVS query, identify whether you are applying for registration or entering the statutory membership examination. Include both relevant policy links, your Veterinary OET statement and the specific component that concerns you. Ask which wording governs your evidence. Do not assume that the more favourable page silently overrides the route-specific exam page, or that an online reference necessarily names the exact product you have booked.
For AVBC, identify whether the enquiry concerns an eligibility assessment or another assessment route, and ask how the currency requirement applies to that application. For Ireland, ask VCI whether there are component or format conditions beyond the published overall grade in the document cited here. Keep answers separate by organisation. An answer from a UK body cannot establish eligibility for an Australian assessment or an Irish registration application.

Keep language evidence beside the professional pathway
Make an evidence record for the country and pathway you intend to pursue. Keep qualification recognition, professional examination and language evidence in separate sections so that a completed step is not mistaken for completion of the whole process. A practice course or language-test result cannot decide whether the veterinary qualification itself is recognised.
Record the date, format and professional version of each test statement. Keep any regulator correspondence with the statement it discusses. If you are planning applications in several countries, compare the actual conditions side by side before choosing a format or resit. The comparison table below exposes the differences instead of offering a single veterinary pass line. It intentionally withholds an automatic approval where overall wording, a conflicting source or missing component information prevents a reliable comparison.

Practise communicating with the owner and the next veterinary team
In Veterinary Writing, start with the professional relationship and the reason for the letter. A discharge update to the referring vet should make the outcome, current condition and continuing care easy to find. Preserve the sequence of treatment and aftercare. Distinguish medication that has stopped from medication that continues, and keep a proposed review separate from one already arranged. Incidental owner complaints do not automatically belong in a clinical handover.
In Speaking, the interlocutor may be an owner who is worried about recovery, costs or what they need to do at home. Find out which concern is most pressing before explaining the supplied care plan. Use language the owner can follow and check how they will carry out the instructions. Do not add clinical advice beyond the original role-play case.
Open an original Veterinary Science case through the profession links. Use selection practice to decide what the receiving vet needs, then write and revise the same letter. For conversation practice, focus on a difficult exchange and then apply the improvement in another card. Existing free entry and plan allowances apply; practice passes provide continued use. OETAce feedback is a study aid, not a veterinary registration opinion or an assessment issued by RCVS, AVBC or VCI.
