The national model and Ontario’s current table

NAPRA publishes a model that provincial and territorial pharmacy authorities can adopt or adapt. Its OET profile is B in Reading, Listening and Speaking and C+ in Writing, achieved in a single testing session. It does not create a Canadian licence or a single countrywide application rule. Confirm the adopted policy with the authority that will register you.

Ontario’s table effective 1 January 2026 explicitly lists those OET grades and accepts Paper, Computer and OET@Home. Ontario results are valid for two years from the test date, with a possible one-year extension for eligible applicants. The Ontario table does not explicitly confirm combining sittings. The national model’s single-session wording is recorded separately, so it is not presented as a newly verified Ontario combining decision. Ask OCP about your exact evidence if you are relying on more than one result.

Choose the province before making a booking

Start by naming the province or territory in which you intend to apply and whether you seek registration as a pharmacist or a pharmacy technician. The national model discusses both professions, but the receiving authority’s application instructions govern the evidence you submit. The practice links here use the Pharmacy test; they do not determine which registration category applies to your qualification.

Make a short application checklist with the authority’s name, the policy link, your intended test version and format, and the point at which the result must still be current. Add the method of result verification. If you already have a statement, keep its test date visible. Do not assume that a result accepted by an education provider or another province will be accepted by your intended authority. Ask about any unresolved item before paying for a new test or arranging travel.

Keep registration, examinations and immigration distinct

An English result is evidence for a specified purpose. Keep your pharmacy registration record separate from your examination and immigration records. An organisation that checks qualifications or runs an examination does not necessarily make the final provincial registration decision. Equally, permission to use a test for professional registration does not establish that the same test meets an immigration programme’s language rules.

When seeking advice, state the purpose in the first sentence. For example, say that you are asking about OET Pharmacy evidence for registration with your named provincial authority. Include the exact test format rather than describing it simply as online. If you have a remote Speaking appointment attached to a venue computer booking, describe that arrangement explicitly. Retain the reply with your statement of results, and revisit the source if the application is delayed or the policy changes.

Practise the handover that a Canadian pharmacy reader can use

In an original Pharmacy letter, find the event that makes communication necessary now. Explain the patient’s medicine-use problem and the relevant background, then make the requested review or action clear. Preserve uncertainty in the notes and keep patient-reported concerns distinct from your observations. Avoid expanding abbreviations into claims that the case does not support. The task is to communicate the supplied situation, not to supply a new clinical assessment.

For speaking, practise finding out what prevents the patient from following the plan. Ask an open question, listen to the answer and adapt your explanation to that difficulty. Invite the patient to explain the instructions back in their own words. After the role-play, identify an exchange that could be clearer and repeat it before moving to a new card. Use the free selection exercise to start writing practice, and the Pharmacy speaking page for conversation practice. Existing marking allowances and practice passes remain available. Practice feedback helps you study; it is not evidence of provincial eligibility or a promise of a qualifying score.
