Rewrite one sentence at a time
Conciseness, genre and style, and purpose are three of the six Writing criteria, and they are easiest to fix one sentence at a time. Long, informal or judgemental sentences cost marks even when the content is right.
Each item gives you a sentence from a letter and one goal: shorter, more professional, or plainer for the reader. You rewrite it and compare yours with a strong version and the reason it works. A few minutes a day builds the habit that shows up across a whole 180–200 word letter.
- Cut words that add nothing
- Swap judgements for facts
